Book Redesigning Class

$299.00

Redesign a storybook with Yeban (Industrial Designer at Silicon Valley / Adjunct Professor at California College of the Arts) for 7 classes.

Through this course, children will be going through a 5 Design Thinking Process of book design; Empathize - Define - Ideate - Prototype - Test. Together, we will redesign and transform a book into a design-friendly and interactive book.

45- 50 mins, 7 classes for $299/per student (including a book), 8 students max/class, online

Starting April 1 (Apr 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13)

Every Friday, 15:00 (CET)

  • Friday 9 AM for New York, USA

  • Friday 2 PM for London

The book that we are designing:

This Is How We Do It: One day in the Lives of Seven Kids from around the World Written by Matt LaMothe

This book follows a day in the life of 7 children from different parts of the world. The author, Matt Lamothe, depicts the lives of families who have lived in the same country for generations. These families follow many traditions unique to their country. The book illustrates what these families typically eat, wear to school, their daily routines, and other aspects of their lives.

Students will develop these skills:

  • Empathizing: Getting exposed to different points of view through group discussions. Learning how to respect other points of view.

  • Identifying/Defining: Identifying and defining what current problems exist in the current version of the book.

  • Ideating: Sharing ideas, prioritizing what to focus on, and coming up with solutions

  • Prototyping: Rapid prototyping of book design using various methods for their idea

  • Test: Test and validate the idea and prototype

Suitable for children who:

  • Have English communication skills suitable for group discussion (or have an eagerness to be better at English with parent’s help)

*Disclaimer: Each student will need to have some familiarity with scissors/ tape/ paper folding, so please make sure a parent is available to supervise if your child is not familiar with these tools.
